How to Enter Your PennGift K-1
When Preparing Your Own Taxes
Thank you for supporting Blue Mountain Christian School through a Special Purpose Entity (SPE)! Your contribution helps provide tuition assistance to families seeking a Christ-centered education.
PennGift, our partner scholarship organization, provides your K-1 form showing the tax information and scholarship credits passed through to you by the SPE. If you prepare your own taxes using tax software, follow these steps:
1. Check the year on your K-1. It must match the tax year you are filing.
2. Enter your federal K-1. Find “Schedule K-1” in your software. Select the form type printed on your K-1 and enter the SPE’s name, EIN, and other information exactly as provided.
3. Review your Pennsylvania K-1 information. Open your Pennsylvania return and enter or verify the state information PennGift provided. Federal entries may not automatically claim your Pennsylvania credit.
4. Find “Other Credits” or “Schedule OC.” Select EITC or OSTC, as shown on your form. If you received both, enter each separately.
5. Identify the credit as passed through from an SPE. If asked for the award source, select “Pass-through” or “PT.” Enter the SPE’s EIN and the credit amount provided by PennGift, not your total contribution. Use PennGift’s instructions for any additional award information.
6. Review before filing. Confirm that Schedule OC includes the correct EITC and/or OSTC amounts. The total should appear on PA-40, Line 23, Other Credits. Include supporting documents as directed.
If you need assistance, contact PennGift with questions about your K-1 or SPE information. Contact your software’s support team if you cannot locate Schedule OC or enter a pass-through EITC/OSTC credit.
